How to Curl Dead-straight Hair

Asked by Kmm, Oct 15th, 2008

Are there any tips for getting curls to last in dead-straight hair? I have tried curling irons and hair rollers but they just drop out after an hour.

It’s actually as much about product as the tools.

After washing, massage the hair in a dollop of styling mousse, then blow-dry smooth.

Next, lightly mist hair with a working hairspray, this could give curls extra hold. If you use hair rollers, leave them in until they have cooled down completely; if use curling iron, pin the curls up until just before you need to leave (you can do your makeup in this time).

Then shape your style When you let the curls down, but don't try to shake the curls around too much, because the curls will drop anyway as the day goes on. Give hair another mist of hairspray to max out their mileage, also spritz underneath, this could boost curls from below.

Finally, when curls have started to droop, you can try spraying in some water (or even a water-based face mist) to reactivate styling product, and scrunching hair back into style.
