Use a Curling Iron to Tame Curly Hair

Posted by Kmm, Nov 10th, 2008

How to use a curling iron on curly hair to make it less curly, but sexy wavy? And how?

With long curly hair, use the curling iron as a hair straightner by smoothing it over sections of your hair when your hair is completely dry. Here are the steps:

- For the preparative work you need gel, a leave in cream and conditioner at least. A blowdryer (with diffuser to reduce frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

- Do not use shampoo. This may sound unbelievable right? Shampoo would made hair less oily and dandruffy, but most shampoos contain some chemicals which could be found in laundry detergent. These chemicals would dry out curly hair. You'd better not to brush your curly hair dry, because this would damage the hair and makes it poof.

- Massage the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt and then rinse it. Spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and put hair at the nape of your neck. After gently combed tangles out with your fingers or a wide tooth comb, rinse with cold/cool water.

- Don't brush or comb your hair after this step, because it would disturb the curl style.  Using gel and scrunching the sopping wet hair with your fingers is important to hair. Make sure the gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you would scrunch out the crunchy texture later.

- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch a part of the water out (don't use generic towel, it can make hair frizz). You can either use a blowdryer with a diffuser after wait for ten minutes or let your hair air dry. When your hair is almost dry, air dry the last bit. Don't touch the hair while it is air drying, or it will frizz!

- At last, moisturize your hair with a conditioner, such as Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner or Activate Hydrating Conditioner.

- The hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicons in them.
