Is the use of a hair dryer harmful for hair in any way?

I never used a hair dryer before, except in salon. Now I am planing to buy one, but it said that using a hair dryer regularly makes your hair brittle, dull and damaged. Is it true?

During blowing drying, prolonged and frequent exposure to heat may cause some damage to your hair. Here is a method: start out with a hair dryer, then using an electric fan or cool setting to dry the rest parts when the hair halfway dryed (hair is still damp). For hair dryer, don't use it too close from the scalp and always apply conditioner after shampoo. Apply mousse to protect hair while you style it. Deep conditioning treatment at least once a month-keeps hair shiny. Have a trim every 4-5 weeks to keep the ends tidy.
