First let me start off by sayng, I will never purchase another CHI product. I use to have a CHI straightener and it stopped working so luckily a lady told me to never purchase another CHI straightener so I went with Paul Mitchell. However, I got a CHI blow dryer for Christmas about a year ago, and it will not heat, only blowing cold air. After reading all this feedback from others I see I am not the only one experiencing this problem!

I know this sounds crazy but I found this info on another site & tried it.    Someone said it worked for them and it actually worked for me as well.    I was ready to go and purchase a new dryer & use my expensive CHI on my dogs!    See below:

Tips to Get My CHI Hair Dryer to Work Again

Last week my expensive CHI PRO hair dryer started blowing cold air after only having it over a year - the warranty was just up! I was so sad, and I didn't want to spend extra money to get it repaired or buy a new one.

Luckily the other day I did something accidentally and got it to work again! Here's how I did it:

Since it blew only cold air, I though it must be the cold button that was stuck. So I plugged it, hit the cold button on and on and on but nothing happened. I got fussed and slammed it on my bed. The cold button hit on my bed hard and the dryer suddenly started to blow hot air! I turned it off and on and it just worked as usual. It's amazing! I asked one of my friends, who's an electrician, but he couldn't explain why this worked.

I surfed the internet and was surprised to find a lot of people having the same problem with their CHI hair dryer. And some had done the similar way to solve the problem, like hitting the cold button on the bathroom counter, with a towel on top of the counter. So I guess it's a useful tip and share it here. People who read this could give it a try before throwing their CHI hair dryer away or paying extra repair charge.

My electrician friend also told me some other easy tips, which could rule out some obvious, minor problems when a hair dryer fails to work.

1. clean out any dust or debris from the back
It is very common that the filter near the back catch a lot of dust and lint, causing the dryer to either stop working completely or have much less power. Unplug the dryer, take something small, such as tweezers or a bobby pin to clean the dust out as thoroughly as possible. After the back is cleaned out, plug the dryer and turn it on, see if it is working properly again.

2. check the outlet
Sometimes it's not the dryer itself, but the outlet into which the dryer is plugged has the problem. Reset the outlet by pushing the small red button underneath the plug-in area, which might be enough to make the dryer work again. Or if it fails, plug something else into it and check to see whether the entire outlet is faulty or whether the problem is related to the hair dryer itself.

3.    wait till the dryer cools down
Many hair dryers have automatic shut-offs that are triggered when the dryers get too hot. So just wait a few hours and then try turning a hair dryer on again before throwing it away, since it might come back on later, after it has had a chance to cool down.

If you've tried everything above but still can't get the dryer work again, it might be necessary to have it repaired by the professionals.

I guess I'm not alone in my disgust for CHI and it's lousy customer service. My dryer after a year started blowing cold air, and was told pretty much "too bad" by the service line. Never again will I buy a CHI product. Going back to my 3yr old Conair that my daughter has been using since I purchased my so called "salon quality" one.

I purchased my chi blow dryer 9/2012.    It started shooting sparks at me on 11/3/2012, then blowing only cold air.    11/5/2012 it quit.    Took it back to the JCP Salon where I purchased it on 11/5/2012, they replaced it.    Today 2/4/2013 the replaced chi started throwing sparks and then stopped blowing hot air.    These blow dryers are not worth the money, in fact they should be pulled off the market.    Just came from Wal Mart with a Revlon for $23.    Never again a CHI!!!!

THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF!!!    I DO NOT HAVE RECEIPT SO I AM BASICALLY OUT OF LUCK.    OF COURSE MINE IS BLOWING 'COLD AIR'...I CANNOT BELIEVE I GOT SUCKED IN TO BUYING THIS.    BOUGHT MINE AT JC PENNY AS WELL IN THEIR SALON.

Don't bother repairing it if your chi breaks after the guarantee is up. It's much cheaper to purchase a better hair dryer that won't break within the year. Chi hair dryers are known for their short life-span, I recommend investing in a Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer for fast drying and healthy styling. It's much better than chi and has a 3yr guarantee.

pI purchased the Special Edition Pink Breast Cancer Blowdryer a few years ago and after 6months it stopped blowing hot air!    I paid $200 for it!    Major ripoff!!    WILL NEVER BUY A CHI PRODUCT AGAIN!!    BUYERS BEWARE!    THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE CLOSED IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

Had my Chi hair dryer for just over a year, then sparks started flying at me while I was using it and now it only blows cold air. I can see others have had the same problem and the company is worthless. Don't waste your money on buying these products, they obviously use faulty (and dangerous) parts and don't care about their customers. Complain to BBB.

I bought a CHI dryer from ULTA beauty--heating element quit after only about 6 months.    I sent an email message to customer service and the person whe responded couldn't even write a comprehensible response. She offered no assistance whatsoever.    After reading how many heating elements have gone out, I don't know if I should spend another dime on this poor quality product.
